Attention Management

One main attention strategy I used during my project was the Pomodoro technique. With this strategy, a specific task is focused on for 25 minutes (one Pomodoro). After that time is up, then there is a 5 minute break. This keeps happening until 4 Pomodoros are reached, then earning a 15 minute break. This method was extremely helpful in me being able to pace myself when doing transcribing since that can often be a lengthy and repetitive process.

Techniques

Cut and Paste

Similar to the ransom note art style, the cut and paste method is self-explanotory, cutting out text and pasting it on a page, making it look more visually interesting and showing contrast between the words and the page.

Collage

This technique is an integral part of zine culture, and is also fun to execute. I used collage on the cover of my zine to show multiple events that have happened in the past year. The layering of photos represents the continual stress and pressure felt by everyone in 2020 because of the year's challenges.

Iterative Design

I learned that sometimes, it takes adjustments and variations of layouts to find something that worked. With this project, I tried out many different fonts, designs and configurations for aspects of my project until I found one that worked.
